Saudi Arabia to Host the Middle East’s Largest CCUS Forum in May 2025

Saudi Arabia is set to host the largest and most influential Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) forum in the Middle East, reinforcing its leadership in the low-carbon energy transition. The CCUS Forum 2025 will take place at the Dhahran Expo from May 19–22, 2025, hosted by Aramco and organized by Birba Energy Services.

Themed “Accelerating CCUS at Scale: Enabling a Low Carbon Future,” the four-day event will bring together global leaders, including government ministers, industry executives, technology providers, and environmental advocates. The forum will feature a strategic conference with 40 international speakers covering five critical topics: CCUS Technology and Innovation, Policy and Regulation, Project Financing and Risk Management, Mitigating Climate Change, and Highlighting Key CCUS Projects.

In addition to the conference, the forum will offer ‘Tech Talks’ and Masterclass Workshops led by experts, providing insights into emerging trends and in-depth training on advanced CCUS technologies. A large exhibition area will also allow technology providers, investors, and consultants to showcase their innovations and solutions.

Saudi Arabia aims to achieve its ambitious target of 44 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of CCUS capacity by 2035, aligning with its 2060 Net Zero goals. The Jubail CCUS Hub, expected to store up to 9 Mtpa of CO₂ by 2027, is a flagship project driving this vision. Plans are also underway to transform the Jubail and Yanbu industrial clusters into regional carbon capture and storage (CCS) hubs, focusing on hard-to-abate sectors such as petrochemicals, steel manufacturing, and hydrogen production.

The strategic objectives of the forum include fostering global climate action, promoting the adoption and scaling of CCUS solutions, driving regional and local business growth, and positioning Saudi Arabia as a global advocate for sustainable industries.

Organized by Oman-based Birba Energy Services, the forum highlights the company’s commitment to sustainability. Birba, known for organizing the Green Hydrogen Summit Oman and other major Gulf events, is expanding its international presence, reinforcing its role in promoting net-zero initiatives.

With collaboration, innovation, and ambitious targets, the CCUS Forum 2025 will serve as a vital platform for advancing sustainable energy solutions and reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s leadership in the regional and global transition to a low-carbon future.
