Kansai Nerolac Uses Thermal Imaging to Showcase Heat-Reflective Paint Technology

In an era where consumers increasingly expect brands to prove product performance rather than simply claim it, Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd. has launched a campaign that puts science at the centre of its marketing strategy. The company has unveiled a new digital video campaign for Nerolac Perma NoHeat, using thermal imaging technology to visually demonstrate the product’s heat-reflective capabilities under real-world conditions.

Created in collaboration with creative and content agency BUZZINga, the campaign replaces conventional advertising techniques with a live thermal experiment that allows viewers to literally see the difference. By capturing treated and untreated surfaces through an infrared thermal camera, the campaign illustrates how the specialised exterior coating can reduce surface temperatures by as much as 15°C, transforming a technical product specification into an easily understood visual experience.

Turning Science into Storytelling

Heat-reflective paints have traditionally relied on technical explanations, laboratory data and performance claims to communicate their benefits. While these methods provide scientific credibility, they often fail to resonate with everyday consumers who may struggle to relate to complex engineering concepts.

Kansai Nerolac’s latest campaign takes a markedly different approach.

Instead of asking consumers to trust marketing claims, the campaign allows the product to demonstrate its own performance through thermal imaging. Filmed under the harsh summer conditions of Rajasthan, the experiment compares identical surfaces exposed to the same environmental conditions, with one coated using Nerolac Perma NoHeat and the other left untreated.

The resulting thermal footage presents an immediate visual contrast, making differences in heat absorption clearly visible through infrared colour mapping.

The campaign reflects a broader shift in modern advertising, where measurable evidence and transparent demonstrations are becoming increasingly effective in building consumer trust.

A Different Approach to Product Demonstration

One of the campaign’s distinguishing features is its use of one of India’s few advanced thermal imaging cameras, allowing the creative concept to revolve around actual product performance rather than dramatized storytelling.

The infrared visuals provide a direct comparison between treated and untreated surfaces, enabling viewers to understand the technology without relying on technical jargon.

Rather than presenting heat reduction as an abstract scientific promise, the campaign makes the effect immediately visible.

This style of evidence-based communication has become increasingly popular across industries where buyers seek proof before making purchasing decisions, particularly in sectors such as construction, home improvement and energy-efficient building materials.

Addressing India’s Rising Heat Challenges

The campaign also arrives at a time when rising temperatures and prolonged heatwaves are becoming major concerns across many parts of India.

As homeowners, businesses and institutions look for sustainable methods to reduce indoor temperatures and energy consumption, passive cooling technologies are attracting greater interest.

Nerolac Perma NoHeat has been designed specifically for exterior walls, terraces and rooftop applications. The coating incorporates specialised pigments engineered to reflect solar radiation, reducing heat absorption without requiring electricity or ongoing maintenance.

Unlike mechanical cooling systems, heat-reflective coatings function continuously after application, offering a passive solution that can contribute to lower building temperatures and potentially reduce dependence on air conditioning.

Such technologies are increasingly finding relevance in commercial buildings, residential developments, industrial facilities and institutional infrastructure seeking energy-efficient building solutions.

Building Consumer Confidence Through Transparency

Speaking about the campaign, Ramkrishna Naik, Chief Marketing Officer of Kansai Nerolac Paints Limited, said the objective was to bridge the gap between product claims and independent consumer verification.

According to Naik, the company believed the product’s strongest advocate would always be its own measurable performance, making scientific evidence the foundation of the campaign rather than conventional promotional messaging.

The creative execution was developed by BUZZINga, whose team focused on simplifying complex technology through visual storytelling.

Co-Founder Kritika Beri explained that instead of attempting to explain the underlying science in greater detail, the agency sought to make the invisible visible. Thermal imaging, she noted, allowed consumers to instantly understand the product’s performance in a way that conventional demonstrations could not achieve.

The campaign also represents what is believed to be one of the first large-scale uses of thermal imaging technology in India’s decorative paints industry to communicate product efficacy.

Innovation Beyond the Product

The campaign reflects an emerging trend where innovation extends beyond product development into marketing itself.

Consumers today increasingly evaluate brands based on transparency, authenticity and demonstrable value. As a result, companies are adopting more evidence-led communication strategies that combine scientific validation with engaging visual storytelling.

For industries selling highly technical products, this approach helps simplify complex information while strengthening credibility.

By allowing technology to tell the story, Kansai Nerolac has created a campaign that not only highlights the performance of Nerolac Perma NoHeat but also demonstrates how scientific proof can become a compelling creative tool.

As climate-conscious construction and sustainable building practices continue gaining momentum, such evidence-based campaigns may well become the new benchmark for communicating innovation in the building materials industry.
