In a major clean energy collaboration, India’s Praj Industries will design and implement a state-of-the-art biorefinery in Paraguay, producing ethanol and sustainable co-products to boost rural development and decarbonization.

In a strategic move that places India at the forefront of South America’s bioeconomy transformation, Praj Industries has been selected by Enersur S.A., Paraguay’s leading renewable energy company, to develop a fully integrated Biorefinery Project. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in advancing clean energy and circular economy goals across the Southern Hemisphere.
The agreement between Praj and Enersur was signed in the presence of Mr. Santiago Peña Palacios, President of Paraguay, during his State Visit to India from June 2–4, 2025. Accompanied by ministers, senior officials, and business leaders, President Peña commended India’s progress in indigenous technology and specifically praised Praj’s role in shaping Paraguay’s clean energy future.
At the heart of the partnership is a 600 m³/day Anhydrous Ethanol plant to be set up in Canindeyú, Paraguay. Using corn as feedstock, the facility will not only produce ethanol but also co-products like DDGS (distillers dried grains with solubles), corn oil, biogas, biobitumen, and even Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)—a bold leap toward energy innovation.
The project, expected to be operational by October 2026, will create significant employment opportunities and boost the rural economy, positioning Paraguay as a clean energy hub in the region. The collaboration involves technology licensing, engineering, core process equipment, and supervisory support, all under Praj’s stewardship.
