Rigaku Corporation, a global leader in X-ray analytical technologies, has announced a strategic expansion of its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, reinforcing its commitment to supporting next-generation device development. With a 50% increase in production capacity at its Takatsuki facility in Osaka and partner site in Nirasaki, Yamanashi Prefecture, the company is positioning itself to meet soaring global demand.
The announcement comes amid an industry-wide race to develop AI-powered semiconductors, which has significantly increased the need for high-precision metrology tools capable of evaluating complex nanoscale structures such as 3D memory and gate-all-around (GAA) transistors.
The move marks a critical milestone for this company, a subsidiary of Rigaku Holdings Corporation, and aligns with its mission to deliver advanced solutions across the rapidly evolving semiconductor landscape.
Doubling Floor Space and Boosting Core Component Output
It has doubled the floor area allocated to assembly and inspection within its Osaka plant, adding clean booths to support increasingly stringent industry standards. Simultaneously, the recent completion of a dedicated production facility within the sixth factory of Nippo Precision Co., Ltd. in Yamanashi has amplified the company’s ability to produce critical components—such as X-ray generators and detectors.
As a result, this company anticipates a 50% increase in total production capacity for semiconductor process control instruments in Q4 FY2025 compared to the same period last year. This expansion is only the beginning, with the company planning to double capacity again—up to 50% over Q4 FY2024 levels—by FY2027.

This strategic investment is Rigaku’s answer to an urgent call from the semiconductor industry: faster production, tighter control, and higher precision. With AI applications driving a technological transformation across sectors—from consumer electronics to data centers—device manufacturers are grappling with complex nanoscale geometries. Rigaku’s instruments, known for their precision and reproducibility, have become essential for evaluating critical parameters such as layer thickness, shape, and material composition.
“This reinforcement of our production framework marks an important milestone for Rigaku’s global strategy,” said Markus Kuhn, General Manager of Rigaku’s Semiconductor Metrology Division. “Our technology is directly addressing the industry’s pressing needs for nanoscale accuracy in next-generation devices. With this capacity increase, we can deliver more quickly and support our customers from R&D to mass production with greater agility.”

Related Milestones and Continued Expansion
Earlier this year, on May 28, Rigaku announced the completion of a new building at its Yamanashi plant, tripling its floor space to meet global demand. This was followed by the June 13 launch of its fourth-generation handheld Raman analyzer, showcasing its ongoing innovation in analytical devices.
