Infosys Partners with Street Child to Empower Education in Crisis-affected Ukraine

Infosys, a global leader in digital services and consulting, has announced a significant milestone in its three-year partnership with Street Child, an international children’s charity. Together, the organizations have established seven Digital Learning Centers (DLCs) in Ukraine to address the critical educational challenges faced by children in conflict zones. These centers aim to provide access to quality education and digital innovation, helping children affected by the ongoing crisis.

Ukraine’s education system has been severely disrupted by the conflict, with over 3,700 educational institutions affected and 365 schools destroyed, according to Save the Children. The war has forced approximately 1.9 million children, nearly half of Ukraine’s school-age population, into relying on partial or entirely remote learning. In response, Infosys partnered with Street Child in 2024 to create secure Digital Learning Centers, which are equipped for online education, and to launch a Digital Transformation program powered by Infosys Springboard, the company’s flagship digital learning platform.

The collaboration initially aimed to set up five DLCs in Dnipropetrovsk, an oblast in Eastern Ukraine, where international aid has been limited due to the region’s proximity to the frontlines. Despite this, the partnership successfully established seven centers within just 12 months. Remarkably, one of the centers was renovated by an all-female team of contractors due to conscription limiting the availability of male workers.

The centers, which were launched in September 2024, have already served over 1,000 children in their first three months of operation. Each center is equipped with essential tools, including laptops, high-speed internet, multimedia projectors, and educational materials. Additionally, the centers offer accessibility features such as wheelchair ramps and modified bathrooms to accommodate all students. Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) spaces have also been included to provide crucial emotional support to children who have experienced trauma.

The Digital Transformation program focuses on preserving Ukraine’s cultural heritage and supporting its education system. Courses in Ukrainian Language and Geography for Grades 5 and 6 are being offered, while specialized courses in Cybersecurity and Anti-Corruption are available for teachers. These efforts align with Ukraine’s national educational platform, All Ukrainian Online, to ensure that the curriculum is relevant and consistent with the country’s educational goals.

Tom Dannatt, CEO and Co-Founder of Street Child, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “At Street Child, we’re working to create a world where every child is safe, in school, and learning. In Ukraine, many children cannot attend physical classrooms, so we’re focusing on making digital education accessible. We’re proud to have partnered with Infosys to support over 1,000 children amid this crisis, and the success of these Digital Learning Centers demonstrates the transformative power of digital education in conflict zones.”

Thirumala Arohi, Executive Vice President and Head of Education, Training, and Assessment at Infosys, commented, “This collaboration directly addresses the devastating impact of the conflict on Ukraine’s education system. Infosys is committed to social impact, and through this partnership, we’re providing secure digital spaces and tailored online courses for students and teachers, helping to build a more resilient educational foundation for the future of Ukraine.”
