India’s Air Purifier Market Is Dominated by Consumer Appliance Players, Says Zonair3D CEO Alessandro Dotti

As concerns around air pollution and indoor environmental health intensify across major cities, businesses and institutions are increasingly rethinking how they manage air quality inside workplaces, schools, and healthcare facilities. The conversation is gradually shifting from the occasional purchase of air purifiers to a more comprehensive approach that treats indoor air management as an ongoing health and productivity priority.

European clean-air technology company Zonair3D is positioning itself within this evolving landscape by offering integrated indoor air management ecosystems rather than standalone devices. With India emerging as one of the most critical markets for solutions addressing urban air quality challenges, the company is exploring opportunities to bring its expertise and technology to the country.

In this conversation with World Economic Magazine, Alessandro Dotti, Group Chief Executive Officer of Zonair3D, speaks with Aditya Rangroo about the company’s strategic entry into India, the growing global focus on indoor environmental health, and how customised air management solutions could shape the future of healthier indoor spaces.

1. What made Zonair3D venture into the Indian market?

India represents one of the most strategically important markets globally for the future of indoor environmental health.

For Zonair3D, entering India is not simply an expansion—it is a long-term commitment to supporting a country where urbanisation, infrastructure development, and public health priorities are converging.

With rising awareness around wellness, prevention, and public health protection—both in private and public spaces such as schools, healthcare facilities, and workplaces—India offers a unique opportunity to deploy advanced European clean-air technologies at scale, through strong local partnerships and responsible localisation.

2. What makes Zonair3D products unique for Indian customers?

Zonair3D goes beyond conventional air purification. We design and deliver comprehensive, tailor-made indoor air management ecosystems. Each project begins with a detailed environmental assessment of the client’s space, allowing us to develop customised solutions that address the specific physical, functional, and health requirements of each environment. Our objective is to create healthy ecosystems, not simply install devices.

As our founder often says, we aim to become “the lungs of the city”—producing clean, breathable air for communities and institutions. Our solutions integrate medical-grade filtration, advanced gas-phase purification, intelligent monitoring, and building-system integration. This enables us to deliver consistent, measurable, and verifiable air quality across diverse environments.

For Indian customers, this translates into long-term reliability, predictable performance, and a premium indoor experience—rather than short-term or cosmetic solutions.

3. With Delhi’s AQI at 225, how does Zonair3D address this challenge?

While outdoor air quality remains a systemic challenge, indoor environments can be actively managed and protected. Zonair3D focuses on creating controlled; high-performance indoor zones that remain safe even when external pollution levels are hazardous. Our systems are designed to rapidly stabilise air quality, reducing harmful particulate concentration by up to 99.995% under certified conditions.

In large enclosed spaces of up to 15,000 square feet, our technology is capable of reducing particulate matter to near-zero levels, creating consistently protected environments.

Our approach is centred on prevention and resilience—ensuring that people have access to healthy air in the spaces where they live, work, learn, and receive care.

4. How do you execute localisation while ensuring customer satisfaction?

Our India strategy is built on a balanced model of localisation, quality governance, and long-term partnerships. We work closely with Indian manufacturing, installation, and service partners, while retaining European engineering standards, validation protocols, and performance benchmarks. This ensures operational efficiency without compromising quality.

At the same time, our R&D centre in Spain works in close coordination with a dedicated Indian technical team, enabling continuous product optimisation based on local conditions and usage patterns. This collaborative model allows us to offer one of the most comprehensive and versatile product portfolios globally, covering a wide range of applications and technical configurations.

In parallel, we invest in education, demonstrations, and pilot deployments to build long-term trust and ensure customer satisfaction.

5. What challenges do you face from competition and reliability perspectives?

In the plug-and-play segment, there are several competitors offering similar product formats. However, meaningful differentiation lies in technology depth, system integration, and long-term performance.

In our professional ranges—such as Air Pro, ceiling-integrated systems, and Bubble technology—there are currently no comparable solutions offering the same level of technical sophistication and environmental control. Most competitors in India operate in the consumer appliance segment, where scale and pricing dominate. Zonair3D operates in the medical-grade and infrastructure-level category, where certification, reliability, and lifecycle performance are paramount.

Our primary challenge is shifting market perception from product-based purchasing to system-based investment. Once this transition occurs, the strategic value of our solutions becomes evident.

6. Can you elaborate on the technology used in your products?

Zonair3D systems are based on a multi-layered engineering architecture designed for continuous, high-performance operation.

Key components include:

  • ULPA U15 medical-grade filtration
  • Advanced gas-phase purification modules
  • Proprietary Bubble airflow technology
  • Integrated real-time air-quality monitoring
  • Seamless HVAC connectivity for large facilities

All systems undergo rigorous microbiological, mechanical, and performance validation to ensure consistent outcomes in real-world environments.

7. Any comments on the market trends and the key takeaways from Zonair3D?

The market is transitioning from episodic air-purifier purchases to holistic, year-round indoor air management. Organisations are increasingly linking air quality to workforce productivity, patient outcomes, regulatory compliance, and brand reputation. This is accelerating demand for integrated, data-driven solutions.

At present, Zonair3D’s primary focus in India is on the B2B segment where we can deliver large-scale preventive impact across corporate, healthcare, education, and public environments.

Over the medium term, we do not exclude a carefully structured entry into the consumer market. To support this future vision, we have established a strategic alliance with Amber Enterprise, strengthening our local manufacturing capabilities in terms of quality, scalability, and long-term capacity.

For Zonair3D, the future of the sector lies in measurable performance, system intelligence, and long-term partnerships. Indoor air quality is evolving into a core component of modern building infrastructure.
