FedEx Powers Nearly One Million Sustainable Mid-day Meal Deliveries Under PM POSHAN

Through its partnership with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, FedEx is driving clean mobility, enhancing nutrition access, and strengthening India’s school feeding ecosystem.

FedEx Corporation, the world’s largest express transportation company, is deepening its impact on India’s school nutrition landscape through its continued collaboration with The Akshaya Patra Foundation. Under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) Program, this partnership is helping deliver nutritious mid-day meals to children while advancing India’s shift toward sustainable, climate-conscious mobility.

In 2025, FedEx expanded its support by funding four electric vehicles (EVs)—two in Panvel, Maharashtra, and two in Delhi. These EVs are now fully dedicated to transporting freshly prepared, hygienic mid-day meals to students in government and government-aided schools. Each EV can deliver over 250,000 meals per year, meaning thousands of children benefit daily depending on the assigned delivery routes.

Since the beginning of the collaboration in 2022, FedEx’s support has contributed to the delivery of nearly one million mid-day meals across multiple cities. By replacing conventional fuel-run delivery vans with EVs, the initiative has reduced carbon emissions, lowered operating costs, and strengthened Akshaya Patra’s long-term sustainability goals. The savings generated from transitioning to electric mobility have enabled the Foundation to support an additional 130,000+ meals, amplifying the overall reach of the PM POSHAN program.

This approach reflects a growing movement toward integrating clean-tech solutions into social welfare initiatives. By merging sustainable mobility with one of India’s largest nutrition programmes, FedEx and Akshaya Patra are demonstrating how logistics innovation can create measurable, scalable social value.

Commenting on the partnership, Suvendu Choudhury, Vice President of Operations, Planning, and Engineering – India, FedEx, said:
“At FedEx, we believe access—whether to markets, opportunities, or nutrition—can transform lives. Our collaboration with The Akshaya Patra Foundation reflects how logistics innovation can advance social progress. By integrating EVs into this initiative, we’re strengthening community infrastructure while contributing to India’s sustainability goals.”

Echoing this, Dhananjay Ganjoo, CMO, The Akshaya Patra Foundation, noted:
“We are grateful to FedEx for their sustained commitment to our mission of nourishing children and empowering education. By integrating electric vehicles with our mid-day meal service, this partnership addresses immediate nutritional needs while supporting a greener future. Every meal delivered is a step toward nurturing healthier, more capable citizens of tomorrow.”

Together, the two organisations are bridging the link between nutrition and learning, reinforcing the role of sustainable logistics in public welfare. Their collaboration advocates for a future where school meal distribution networks are both environmentally responsible and operationally efficient—helping India progress toward inclusive growth and climate resilience.

FedEx remains committed to leveraging its logistics expertise to support communities globally, while The Akshaya Patra Foundation continues to scale its impact as an implementing partner of the PM POSHAN scheme. Serving 2.35 million mid-day meals daily across 25,000+ schools, the Foundation operates a network of 76 centralised kitchens and additional decentralised models, enabling efficient meal preparation and delivery across diverse geographies.

With over 4 billion meals served since 2000, Akshaya Patra stands as one of the world’s most influential school feeding programmes. Its partnership with FedEx underscores how strategic collaboration and innovation can strengthen essential public services—ensuring children receive the nutrition they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
