Bisleri and MBMC Launch Mira Bhayandar’s First Plastic Recovery and Sustainability Inspiration Centres

A pioneering partnership introduces a state-of-the-art recovery facility and a first-of-its-kind Plastic Recycling Museum to strengthen circular economy practices and promote responsible plastic management.

Bisleri International Pvt. Ltd., India’s leading packaged drinking water company, has taken a major step toward advancing city-level sustainability through its flagship initiative, Bottles for Change. In collaboration with the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), the company has inaugurated the city’s first Plastic Recovery Centre and Sustainability Inspiration Centre, marking an ambitious effort to streamline plastic waste management and inspire community-driven environmental action.

The newly launched Plastic Recovery Centre is a modern Material Recovery Facility (MRF) designed to enhance the city’s recycling infrastructure. Equipped with a conveyor belt, baling machine, and advanced segregation systems provided by Bisleri, the centre aims to create an efficient mechanism for collecting, sorting, and processing plastic waste from hotels, institutions, residential societies, and commercial establishments. This initiative reinforces the shared goal of achieving “Zero Plastic to Landfill”, setting Mira Bhayandar on a path to becoming a cleaner and more sustainable urban ecosystem.

Complementing the recovery facility is the Sustainability Inspiration Centre, a first-of-its-kind Plastic Recycling Museum built entirely from recycled materials. Designed as an experiential learning space, the museum engages children, students, and citizens through interactive displays that vividly illustrate plastic’s journey from waste to usable products. Its standout feature, “Binny the Bird”, is a striking sculpture created from 2,000 recycled plastic bottles—symbolizing the transformative power of recycling.

The museum also highlights various innovative uses of recycled plastic, including 70 public benches crafted entirely from repurposed bottle caps, soon to be installed across the city. These benches will serve as enduring reminders of community participation and the value of responsible disposal practices.

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Angelo George, CEO of Bisleri International, emphasized the company’s mission to foster widespread behavioural change:
“At Bisleri, our commitment to sustainability is about creating systems that inspire action. Our collaboration with the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation is a significant milestone in strengthening community participation and advancing circular economy at the city level. With the Plastic Recovery facility and the Sustainability Inspiration Centre, we aim to pave responsible pathways for plastic usage and disposal. Together, we are working toward a cleaner, greener Mira Bhayandar.”

Echoing this vision, Shri Radhabinod Sharma, IAS, Municipal Commissioner & Administrator, MBMC, highlighted the initiative’s community impact:
“Effective plastic waste management is a key focus area for the Municipal Corporation. The new facilities will help us build a more organized and responsible system for the city. The Recycling Museum, especially, will play an important role in raising awareness about segregation and recycling among citizens, particularly students. This partnership with Bisleri strengthens our ongoing efforts toward creating a sustainable urban environment.”

The launch event was attended by civic and corporate leaders, including K. Ganesh, Director – Sustainability & Corporate Affairs at Bisleri, along with key municipal officials such as Dr. Sachin Bangar, Dr. Sambhaji Panpatte, Yogesh Gunijan, and Priyanka Bhosale.

Together, Bisleri and MBMC have set a benchmark for circular economy initiatives by integrating technology, education, and community engagement. The project represents an impactful model for urban sustainability—one that empowers residents to contribute actively to responsible waste management and a greener future for Mira Bhayandar.
