Shesh Rao Paplikar, Founder & CEO of BHIVE Workspace
A jellyfish sting, 113 km of sweat, and a promise made years ago how BHIVE’s founder became the world’s first flex-workspace CEO to finish Ironman 70.3, and why his victory is reshaping the company’s culture. The sun rose over Goa with the promise of a gruelling day ahead. For most participants at Ironman 70.3, the 113 km race was a personal challenge. For Shesh Rao Paplikar, Founder & CEO of BHIVE Workspace, it was something bigger a comeback, a commitment, and a quiet declaration that discipline beats doubt every single time.
And by the end of the day, he wasn’t just another finisher.
He became the first flex-workspace founder in the world to complete Ironman 70.3 on his very first attempt.
Ironman 70.3 packs a 1.9 km swim, 90 km cycling, and a 21.1 km run. Shesh powered through all three phases in 7 hours, 51 minutes, 54 seconds, with the precision of a man who had trained with intent.
But the race wasn’t smooth.
Midway through the sea swim, a jellyfish sting sent a wave of pain across his arm followed by swelling and cramps. Most would have stepped aside. Shesh chose to push harder.
His team of BHIVE employees—who trained and raced alongside him watched their CEO grind through the cycling and running segments with measured pacing, fierce focus, and unshakable mental strength.
BHIVE team members described it as “a once-in-a-lifetime moment.”
Running next to their CEO didn’t just motivate them—it reshaped how they saw endurance, leadership, and their own potential.
Their message was simple:
“He didn’t tell us how to push limits. He showed us.”
Shesh’s Ironman seed was planted in 2007, after he completed the New York Marathon. But as BHIVE grew, fitness slid to the background—until a gentle nudge from his Whoop tracker and an impulsive public promise brought it roaring back.
Morning swims. Long rides through Bengaluru’s edges. Runs at Cubbon Park. Coaching, discipline, and yes data, including training insights supported by AI and ChatGPT.
For Shesh, Ironman isn’t about medals—it’s about mindset. BHIVE has already woven this into its workplace with initiatives in fitness, mental well-being, and what they call “Work Life Harmony.” Because in Shesh’s world, building a company is not a sprint. It’s an endurance sport.
And Ironman is only the beginning.
