Amazon India Partners with Startup India and DPIIT to Empower Startups Through E-commerce

Fostering Innovation and Supporting Entrepreneurs Across India

October 9, 2024

Amazon India has announced a strategic partnership with Startup India, under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), to empower Indian startups through e-commerce. This collaboration aims to help startups scale their businesses by leveraging Amazon’s extensive resources, expertise, and nationwide reach.

Boosting Opportunities for Startups
As part of the initiative, Amazon will create a dedicated platform on the Startup India portal to onboard eligible startups onto its marketplace. These startups will receive specialized onboarding support, mentorship from Amazon leaders, go-to-market guidance, and logistical expertise. This partnership will help startups access the domestic market, catering to customers across Amazon’s vast serviceable network.

Sharing his views, Shri Sanjiv, Joint Secretary, DPIIT, said, “Our collaboration with Amazon is aimed at empowering startups to unleash their entrepreneurial potential and access new growth avenues. By combining Amazon’s e-commerce expertise with Startup India’s role as the Government of India’s flagship initiative for the development of the startup ecosystem, we will provide a robust platform for Indian startups and businesses to scale domestically.”

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs
The Amazon Saheli x Startup India program will focus on accelerating the e-commerce journey of women-led businesses. Through capacity-building initiatives, upskilling opportunities, and access to Amazon’s services—including Amazon Pay, Amazon Advertising, AWS, and Mini TV—the program seeks to foster growth in sectors such as fashion, food and beverage, textiles, toys, and more.

Chetan Krishnaswamy, Vice President of Public Policy, Amazon India, highlighted the importance of the initiative: “Startups in India are an inspiration to everyone because of their sheer determination and willpower to build successful businesses across different industries. By leveraging the power of e-commerce, they are scaling new heights, and catering to customers across different parts of the country with their innovative products. We are honoured to join hands with Startup India, DPIIT, to pursue our common goal of empowering entrepreneurs and driving economic growth in India.”

Promoting Knowledge and Collaboration Through BHASKAR
In addition to e-commerce support, Amazon will assist in expanding the Bharat Startup Knowledge Access Registry (BHASKAR) platform. This initiative under Startup India aims to centralize and enhance collaboration between startups, investors, mentors, service providers, and government bodies, creating a more integrated entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Driving National and Economic Growth
This comprehensive partnership aims to foster innovation, empower women entrepreneurs, and provide startups with tools to grow into national brands. By integrating their businesses with Amazon’s platform, startups will gain access to an extensive customer base across India’s serviceable pin codes, driving economic development and creating new opportunities.

Amazon India’s collaboration with Startup India reinforces its commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive ecosystem, ensuring entrepreneurs—particularly women—realize their full potential and contribute to India’s growing economy.
