Ai+ Smartphone disrupted India’s premium foldable smartphone segment with the launch of the NovaFlip 5G, positioning itself as the first brand to introduce a flip smartphone in the country priced below Rs. 30,000 while targeting wider adoption of foldable technology. India’s smartphone market witnessed another significant shift as affordability increasingly became the next battleground in premium consumer technology categories. Foldable and flip smartphones, once confined largely to ultra premium price brackets, had remained aspirational devices for most consumers despite growing interest in compact and flexible form factors.
Against this backdrop, Ai+ Smartphone launched the NovaFlip 5G, introducing what the company described as India’s first flip smartphone priced below Rs. 30,000.
Launched at a special introductory price of Rs. 29,999, the NovaFlip 5G marked an aggressive attempt to democratise foldable smartphone technology in a market traditionally dominated by high end global brands.
The launch also reflected a broader trend emerging within India’s consumer electronics industry, where domestic and India focused technology companies increasingly sought to challenge premium segments through competitive pricing, localisation strategies, and feature rich offerings.
According to the company, the NovaFlip 5G combined a compact foldable design with performance specifications targeted at mainstream users rather than niche luxury consumers. The device featured a 6.9 inch FHD+ AMOLED inner display alongside a 3 inch AMOLED cover screen, enabling users to access notifications, controls, and quick interactions without unfolding the device.
Photography capabilities formed a major part of the product positioning. The smartphone featured a 50MP rear camera setup along with a 32MP autofocus front camera, catering to content creators, selfie users, and social media driven consumers seeking high quality front facing photography performance.
Under the hood, the NovaFlip 5G was powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300X chipset paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The device operated on Android 15 integrated with the company’s proprietary NxtQuantum OS, which the brand positioned as India’s first sovereign mobile operating system.
The launch followed strong market traction for the company’s earlier Nova 2 series, with the Nova 2 and Nova 2 Ultra reportedly witnessing rapid sellouts after launch. Industry observers viewed the momentum as an indication of rising consumer willingness to explore emerging smartphone brands offering premium specifications at aggressive pricing.
Commenting on the launch, Madhav Sheth, Chief Executive Officer of Ai+ Smartphone and founder of NxtQuantum Shift Technologies, described the NovaFlip 5G as a “category shift” aimed at making flip smartphones genuinely accessible for Indian consumers.
He stated that foldable phones had historically remained aspirational rather than attainable for most buyers and added that the NovaFlip attempted to bridge that gap by combining expressive design with practical everyday performance.
Beyond design and hardware, the company also focused heavily on positioning the device around convenience and portability. Weighing 193 grams, the smartphone included features such as NFC, Wi Fi 6 support, dual SIM 5G connectivity, a side mounted fingerprint sensor, and a flip aware user interface powered through a hall sensor mechanism.
Battery performance also formed a key part of the offering. The NovaFlip 5G housed a 4325mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging through USB Type C technology. The company claimed the device could deliver extended standby and talk time performance suited for heavy daily usage.
The smartphone became available exclusively through Flipkart as part of the platform’s Big Saving Days sale campaign beginning May 8.
For Ai+, the launch represented more than a new product release. It signalled the company’s ambition to position itself as a serious contender within India’s increasingly competitive smartphone ecosystem by combining affordability, local technology development, and aspirational hardware categories.
At a time when consumers were seeking premium experiences without premium pricing, the NovaFlip 5G illustrated how foldable smartphones could gradually move from luxury status symbols toward broader mainstream adoption in one of the world’s largest mobile markets.
