The new facility was inaugurated on November 10, 2025, in the presence of senior government officials from Telangana and Sonatype’s global leadership team.
The inauguration was attended by Hon’ble Minister Sri Dudilla Sridar Babu, Cabinet Minister for Information Technology, Electronics, Communications, Industries, Commerce, and Legislative Affairs; Sri Sanjay Kumar, IAS, Special Chief Secretary, Government of Telangana; Sri Sai Krishna, IT Advisor to the Minister; Sri Sreekant Lanka, Chief Strategy Officer, Government of Telangana; CEO Bhagwat Swaroop; Chief Product Development Officer Mitchell Johnson; and Abhishek Chauhan, Head of India and Senior Director of Technology, alongside industry leaders and partners.
Speaking at the launch, Hon’ble Minister Sri Dudilla Sridar Babu emphasized Hyderabad’s rising leadership in global AI and open-source innovation. He highlighted Sonatype’s pivotal role in strengthening software security globally and welcomed the company’s growing presence in the state’s thriving technology ecosystem.
With its roots in stewarding the world’s largest Java repository — Maven Central — and the widely adopted Nexus Repository, Sonatype has influenced open-source development for more than two decades. The Hyderabad Innovation Hub will accelerate this legacy by housing over 200 engineers, data scientists, product leaders, and AI specialists focused on AI/ML-driven security, cloud-native development, open-source intelligence, and automation at scale.
Bhagwat Swaroop, CEO of Sonatype, noted that India is playing a defining role in global technology transformation, positioning Hyderabad as a magnet for global R&D investment. With this new hub, Sonatype aims to accelerate innovation that strengthens software supply chains worldwide.
Abhishek Chauhan remarked that the Hyderabad hub will be a center where engineering talent, AI innovation, and open-source expertise converge to shape the future of secure software development. The India team is already contributing to global patents, open-source security frameworks, and advancements in automated security intelligence.
The center will also deepen Sonatype’s engagement with global compliance and regulatory frameworks, supporting organizations in navigating guidelines such as CERT-IN, SBOM governance, and the SEBI Cyber Resilience Framework.
Headquartered in Fulton, Maryland, Sonatype operates across the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Colombia, and now India’s HITEC City. The company supports nearly 2,000 global enterprises, including 70% of the Fortune 100, and serves more than 15 million developers worldwide.
