HONOR Robot Phone Signals a New Era of AI Driven Smartphone Design

HONOR’s futuristic Robot Phone combines a motorised gimbal camera, advanced AI features and flagship specifications to rethink how smartphones capture and interact with the world

Smartphone design has spent years becoming thinner, faster and more refined. HONOR’s Robot Phone takes a decidedly different approach. Previewed at CES 2026 and subsequently showcased at MWC 2026, the device brings robotics into the smartphone form factor, placing a motorised camera arm at the centre of its design.

Expected to launch in China around August 2026, with an Indian debut potentially following later in the year, the Robot Phone represents HONOR’s attempt to push smartphones beyond conventional fixed camera systems. Its defining feature is a mechanically controlled gimbal that can move, track subjects and adjust its position using artificial intelligence.

A Camera That Moves

The most distinctive element of the device is its motorised camera arm, built around a four degree of motion mechanical gimbal. HONOR describes it as being powered by one of its smallest micro motors.

The system is designed to automatically track subjects and maintain stability while recording handheld video. It can also rotate to create alternative shooting angles through AI Spinshot and tilt to keep participants within the frame during video calls.

The concept goes beyond conventional photography. According to the source material, the camera can even respond to music and move in rhythm with the beat, giving the device an unusual combination of functionality and entertainment.

Flagship Hardware Meets AI

The Robot Phone is expected to feature a 6.71 inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1256 × 2808 resolution, protected by Giant Rhino Glass. Under the hood, it is expected to use a flagship grade octa core Snapdragon platform, paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Photography is clearly central to the product. The rear system is expected to combine a 200MP primary sensor with a 50MP ultra wide lens mounted on the motorised gimbal, alongside a 50MP front camera.

AI capabilities are integrated into the camera experience, including object tracking and automated framing for group photographs. These features are designed to reduce the need for users to manually position themselves or constantly adjust the camera.

A 7,000mAh battery with 120W fast charging and wireless charging support is expected to complement the hardware. The device is also expected to carry an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance and run Android 16 with MagicOS.

A Premium Proposition

The Robot Phone is expected to occupy the higher end of the smartphone market. Current estimates cited in the release place its potential Indian starting price at around Rs. 99,990, although HONOR has yet to confirm the final Indian price or launch details.

That positioning reflects the device’s unusual mechanical architecture and high specification camera system. It also places the Robot Phone in a category where consumers will likely assess it not simply on processing power, but on whether its robotic camera delivers a meaningfully different experience.

The device is therefore less about adding another incremental specification to the smartphone checklist and more about experimenting with what a smartphone can physically do.

If HONOR successfully translates its concept into a reliable consumer product, the Robot Phone could become an interesting marker in the evolution of mobile technology. Smartphones have progressively incorporated computational photography, generative AI and increasingly sophisticated sensors. The next frontier may be physical intelligence, where the device itself can move, respond and adapt to its surroundings.

The HONOR Robot Phone is an ambitious bet on precisely that future.
