Setting New Standards in Indian Golf: GDI’s Vision at Khargar Valley

The Khargar Valley Golf Course blends innovation with natural beauty, redefining golf architecture in India.

Golf Design India (GDI) has set a new benchmark for Indian golf with the unveiling of the Khargar Valley Golf Course in Navi Mumbai. This par-72 championship course, commissioned by CIDCO, is a testament to how innovation and sustainability can transform the golfing experience. GDI’s design was chosen through a competitive tender process, outperforming both national and international firms.

A Visionary Approach to Design

The course’s design encapsulates the future of Indian golf by merging cutting-edge techniques with a deep respect for nature. The Khargar Valley site, surrounded by hills and intersected by water channels, presented unique challenges. GDI’s team conducted a meticulous study of the land’s hydrology to ensure the design not only harmonized with but also preserved the natural environment.

“Khargar Valley is a testament to the future of golf in India—where innovation meets nature. Our vision was to create a course that inspires golfers and showcases the immense potential of Indian golf course design,” said Vijit Nandrajog, Chief Architect at Golf Design India.

Course Highlights and Features

The Khargar Valley Golf Course features two loops of nine holes, all conveniently close to the clubhouse. Among its standout features is an island green on Hole 9, the par-3 Hole 7, and India’s longest golf hole, offering both challenge and engagement for golfers of all skill levels.

The design is player-centric, utilizing the natural contours of the land to offer varied strategies. Whether a novice or a seasoned golfer, players can expect a balanced experience of accessibility and challenge.

Vijit Nandrajog, Chief Architect at GDI

‘’We aimed to craft a course that challenges golfers while highlighting India’s golf design excellence…This project is an inspiring blueprint for what the future of Indian golf can look like.”

Overcoming Design Challenges

GDI’s approach to the project was holistic, encompassing project management, design, and execution. The team overcame significant hurdles, including rocky terrains and harsh monsoon conditions, showcasing their technical expertise and adaptability. This turnkey solution not only reflects GDI’s commitment to excellence but also highlights their ability to craft courses that resonate with both players and nature.

A Legacy of Excellence

Since its inception in 2007, Golf Design India has been a leader in golf course architecture, with a portfolio that spans championship courses, real estate developments, and practice academies. GDI’s emphasis on sustainability and innovative design has made it a go-to partner for clients seeking world-class golf course solutions.

The Khargar Valley project is more than just a golf course—it is a vision for the future of Indian golf. As the course nears completion, it is set to welcome golfers to a landscape where strategy, innovation, and natural beauty come together seamlessly.
