A new era of deep ocean exploration is underway with the official launch of OceanQuest, a non-profit foundation based in Saudi Arabia and committed to unlocking the mysteries of the deep sea. With its headquarters situated within the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) campus in Thuwal, OceanQuest emerges with a clear mission: to accelerate ocean discovery, foster innovation, promote international collaboration, and ignite public curiosity about the ocean.

Launched in alignment with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, OceanQuest aims to be a game-changer in both the scientific and environmental realms. Backed by an ambitious pledge to contribute SAR 3 billion toward research and development by the year 2050, the foundation plans to support over 150 scientists annually, providing critical momentum to the Kingdom’s National Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) strategy.

OceanQuest will lead a series of joint scientific expeditions focused on seamounts—the underwater mountains that host vibrant ecosystems vital to the health of the ocean. These expeditions will span disciplines, investigating the biology, chemistry, geology, and physics of deep-sea environments.
