Showcasing sustainable, scalable, climate-smart farming to empower India’s growers
Sabarkantha, Gujarat – In a major step toward sustainable agriculture, McCain Foods India has launched its first Regenerative Agriculture Demonstration Farm in Hajipur village, Himmatnagar Taluka, in the district of Sabarkantha, Gujarat. Announced on World Environment Day, the initiative signals McCain’s deepening commitment to climate-smart farming and long-term agricultural resilience in India.
McCain Foods Ltd. is one of the world’s leading producers of frozen French fries and potato specialties. Headquartered in Florenceville, New Brunswick, Canada, McCain operates 49 production facilities across six continents and employs more than 22,000 people. McCain Foods (India) Pvt. Ltd. has been active in India since 1998, working in agricultural R&D and supplying premium frozen foods to fast food chains, restaurants, hotels, and homes across the country.
This demonstration farm is part of McCain’s global pledge to transition 100% of its grower network to regenerative agricultural practices by 2030. “This Demonstration Farm reflects McCain’s deep commitment to advancing regenerative agriculture in India—not just as a concept, but as a practical and scalable reality,” said Mr. Mainak Dhar, Managing Director, McCain Foods India. “As a company rooted in agriculture, we take pride in leading by example. Through this initiative, we aim to build conviction on the ground, enabling farmers to adopt practices that restore soil health, conserve resources, and strengthen resilience over time.”
Sabarkantha was selected as the site due to its importance as a key McCain growing region, with a strong community of engaged farmers and favourable agro-climatic conditions. The farm is expected to act as a hub for learning, co-creation, and experimentation, not only for farmers but also for McCain teams, agri-experts, and strategic partners.
With this initiative, McCain aims to create a replicable model that supports India’s broader sustainability goals. The farm will demonstrate how regenerative agriculture can build both economic strength and ecological resilience—offering farmers real-time solutions that are sustainable and profitable.
As McCain continues its sustainability journey, this new venture reinforces the company’s leadership in regenerative agriculture in India, while contributing meaningfully to global efforts to combat climate change through food systems transformation.
