Big Bang Boom Solutions Delivers Indigenous AgniQuell Firefighting Foam to Indian Navy

Indian deep tech defence enterprise Big Bang Boom Solutions (BBBS) announced the successful development and delivery of its AgniQuell High Expanding Fire Fighting Foam to the Indian Navy’s Material Organisation. The achievement followed a development programme funded through an iDEX Challenge floated by the Indian Navy in association with the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO), aimed at developing an indigenous solution for a critical firefighting requirement.

Engineering for High Risk Environments

Modern naval vessels, defence installations and heavy industrial facilities require firefighting systems capable of responding rapidly to emergencies while protecting sensitive equipment and infrastructure. AgniQuell was developed specifically with such high risk environments in mind.

According to the company, the firefighting foam can achieve an expansion ratio of up to 1:1000, transforming a relatively compact volume of concentrate into a large fire suppression blanket. The high expansion capability is designed to rapidly cover affected areas and reduce oxygen availability around a fire.

The system was also designed around several operational requirements, including rapid suppression, efficient coverage and compatibility with existing firefighting equipment. Its applications are intended to extend across enclosed machinery rooms, storage areas and other high risk facilities, as well as outdoor environments.

One of its stated advantages is reduced water consumption. This can be particularly relevant in defence environments where excessive water use during firefighting could cause secondary damage to sensitive electronic, military or industrial equipment.

A Milestone for Indigenous Defence Innovation

He noted that the development was intended to reduce dependence on foreign technologies while strengthening India’s ability to build critical defence solutions domestically.

The AgniQuell delivery also marked the second product that BBBS said it had developed, qualified, contracted and delivered under the iDEX programme. The company described this as evidence of a repeatable pathway from defence innovation challenges to deployable products.

The company is now engaged in discussions concerning potential follow-on orders and pilot deployments across additional naval installations and defence platforms.

Applications Beyond Defence

While AgniQuell was developed in response to a defence requirement, its potential applications extend into several industrial sectors. The company said the technology could be relevant to oil and gas facilities, power generation, aviation and heavy manufacturing, where fire protection remains a critical component of operational infrastructure.

The combination of high expansion capability, comparatively low water and concentrate requirements, and compatibility with different firefighting equipment could make the technology relevant to facilities seeking to strengthen fire safety without extensive changes to existing infrastructure.

The development therefore represents more than a single defence delivery. It highlights the growing role of India’s deep tech ecosystem in translating research and engineering into products designed for demanding operational environments.
