139th Canton Fair Sets New Benchmark with Scale, Innovation and Global Trade Momentum

With record participation, expanded exhibition zones, and a strong focus on technology-driven industries, the 139th Canton Fair reaffirms its position as a global gateway for trade and innovation. The globally renowned China Import and Export Fair, widely known as the Canton Fair, is set to return for its 139th edition with unprecedented scale and a renewed emphasis on innovation-led growth. Scheduled to take place in Guangzhou from April 15 to May 5, the Fair will be आयोजित in three distinct phases, bringing together a diverse cross-section of industries, technologies, and global buyers.

This year’s edition marks a significant milestone, with the total exhibition area expanding to an impressive 1.55 million square meters. Hosting over 75,700 booths and more than 32,000 participating enterprises, the event surpasses previous editions in both size and scope. Notably, around 3,900 companies will be participating for the first time, reinforcing the Fair’s role as a dynamic platform for businesses seeking international exposure and new trade opportunities.

Reflecting the evolving contours of global trade, the Canton Fair has strategically enhanced its exhibitor composition and product categories. The number of exhibition zones has grown to 179, including nine newly introduced segments that spotlight high-growth industries such as smart wearables, advanced display technologies, consumer drones, and prefabricated housing solutions. These additions collectively feature nearly 670 companies across more than 1,300 booths, offering buyers a comprehensive view of emerging market trends.

A defining feature of this year’s Fair is its strong emphasis on advanced manufacturing and next-generation productivity. More than 60 percent of participating enterprises have integrated cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, industrial internet applications, 5G solutions, and environmentally sustainable production methods into their offerings. In total, the Fair will showcase over 4.65 million products, with a significant share comprising innovative, green, and proprietary items that reflect the industry’s shift toward high-quality, future-ready production.

Beyond scale and innovation, the Fair has also made notable strides in enhancing the buyer experience. A newly introduced one-stop service center aims to streamline navigation and engagement, while year-round pre-registration and a dedicated buyer newsletter provide timely updates and personalized insights. These initiatives are designed to facilitate efficient matchmaking between buyers and suppliers, ultimately improving transaction outcomes.

Technology plays a central role in this transformation. The upgraded Canton Fair mobile application now features 26 functionalities, including 14 new artificial intelligence-driven scenarios that support everything from attendance planning to post-event follow-ups. This digital ecosystem enables a seamless, intelligent journey for participants, ensuring that both first-time and returning buyers can maximize their engagement with the event.

Global participation continues to show robust growth, underscoring the Fair’s enduring international appeal. As of early April, more than 210,000 overseas buyers had pre-registered, reflecting a 20 percent increase compared to the previous spring session. Additionally, the number of confirmed top-tier sourcing companies has risen by 30 percent, reaching 290. There has been particularly strong growth in participation from Belt and Road Initiative countries, as well as regions such as Latin America and Africa. Notably, specialized buyers now account for over 70 percent of total registrations, indicating a more focused and professional audience.

Recognizing the evolving needs of international participants, especially those facing travel constraints, the Fair has further strengthened its hybrid engagement model. This includes enhanced online supply-demand matchmaking, overseas social media livestream events, and improved on-ground services tailored for international enterprises operating within China. Such initiatives ensure that geographical limitations do not hinder participation, maintaining the Fair’s global accessibility.

As global trade navigates a complex landscape shaped by technological disruption, geopolitical shifts, and sustainability imperatives, the Canton Fair continues to serve as a vital conduit for international commerce. Its ability to adapt, innovate, and scale reinforces its relevance as a premier platform where businesses converge to explore opportunities, forge partnerships, and shape the future of global trade.

With its expanded footprint, forward-looking focus, and growing international participation, the 139th Canton Fair is not merely an exhibition it is a reflection of the evolving global economy and a powerful indicator of where the next wave of trade and innovation is headed.
